Store officials say it's a miracle no serious injuries occurred after a car smashed through the doors of Abel's Quik Shop on James Road in Hannibal.

The crash took place around 4 p.m. Saturday. Captain Charles Paxton of the Hannibal Fire Department says a car traveling through the intersection of Highway 61 and James Road collided with another vehicle before crashing into the building.

Paxton says there were two occupants in each vehicle.  One person complained of back pain but refused treatment at the scene.

Two employees working inside are reported to have escaped injury.  Three customers had just exited the busy convenience store. The impact moved the front counter back a bit.

The store was closed for a few hours so carpenters could make temporary repairs to the entrance and clean up the debris.

The Ford Escort station wagon sustained major front end damage and was towed from the scene.
