A Hazelwood, Missouri man is dead after he was struck by his own boat on the Lake of the Ozarks.

The Missouri Water Patrol reports the fatal accident happened at the 8 mile-mark of the Osage Arm just after 7 a.m. Saturday.

Troopers say a boat operated by 62-year-old Edward Sandt of Hazelwood came out of a cove at high rate of speed and crossed into the path of another vessel operated by 59-year-old Philip McKemie of St. Louis. As McKemie turned his boat to the right to avoid a collision, Sandt turned his boat to the left at the same time. The two vessels collided. Sandt was ejected. Sandt’s boat continued to circle and struck him in the water. Edward Sandt was pronounced dead by the Camden County Medical Examiner. Sandt’s brother, 65 year old Francis Sandt of St. Charles, suffered serious injuries and was flown to University Hospital in Columbia by Staff of Life Helicopter.

A passenger in McKemie’s boat, 53-year-old Mark Schaefer of Fenton suffered minor injuries and went to Lake Regional Hospital by ambulance.
