If you're hungry for some delicious fried chicken and wanting to help out with a good cause, The Barry, IL Fire Department's annual chicken fry is this Saturday (7/28).

Barry is my hometown, and the Firemen's chicken fry is sort of a "town reunion," with many folks with Barry ties, coming back to visit and enjoy the day. Many people from around the area come to enjoy a fried chicken dinner at the Barry firehouse, and also as way to make a donation to the all-volunteer department, which does a great job with fire protection as well as medical and accident first response along Interstate 72 in a good sized portion of Pike County, IL.

The menu includes fried chicken, baked potato or potato salad, baked beans and cole slaw.  Adults, $7, children $4. You can dine at the firehouse on the town square in Barry, or carry outs are available. Lunch is served starting at 11 and dinner from 4 until 7.

In addtion to great food, there will be live music and other entertainment for all ages in Lafayette Park in Barry, just across the street from the firehouse.

It's great to have a group of individuals that are willing to take the time and personal sacrifice and expense to take on the challenges of serving on volunteer fire departments. It's not easy work, and Barry is proud of the very important work they do.

I hope that you'll come join us for some good food and fun this Saturday.
