Michael, please. Not Mike. I was born and raised in Chicago. Even though I have not lived in the “Big City” since 1992, I still consider myself a Chicagoan (Go Bears!). Other than listening to music, I love to cook. Most weekends you can find me in my kitchen creating something. Nothing fancy, just something out of the ordinary. If you check out my blogs I will occasionally post a recipe I have created. Of course, I had to wire speakers in to my kitchen so I can have music playing while I create. Preferably some Jazz selections – Stanley Turrentine, Charlie Haden, Vince Guaraldi, and the like. When I am not cooking, you can either find me curled up on the couch watching a movie (Blues Brothers, Mr. Holland’s Opus, Goodfellas, Casino), or in my car just driving around.

My First Car – Do You Remember Yours?
My actual first car was a 1966 Chrysler Newport. But after I purchased it without a battery, I parked it for several months. When I finally was able to drive it (for 3 blocks) I noticed a freeze plug had blown, so I junked it... which is why I really consider this my first car:
How Much To Tip?
I was sitting at a Bar / Restaurant enjoying a beverage. A gentleman walked up to the bar with his bill for the food the group at his table received. I overheard that the check came out to $95 and some change. The gentleman handed the bartender a $100 bill and said "the rest is your tip."
Pinochole and Bridge – Does Anybody Play These Games Anymore?
I was watching a movie from the 60s recently where the lead character was about to get together with her friends during the afternoon to play Bridge. This is a scenario I rarely (if ever) see in movies anymore, nor do I see this in real life. Which begs the question:
Does anybody play Bridge anymore?
Sleep Is Overrated
The time is 12:55am. I am sitting in my living room writing blogs. I am a little tired, but still in a functional state of mind.
How Can I Put This?
Too many times my mouth works too fast for my brain to comprehend. For example: I was at a business gathering recently at a clothing store. The woman in charge of the gathering was trying on a leather jacket.
Double Decker Gazebo – Unique To This Area? Could Be
Over the weekend my girlfriend and I took a drive through Pike County, Illinois. We were on our way home when she said "I have never seen Hull or Kinderhook." She had seen the signs from the expressway, and was curious.
So off we go through Hull and Kinderhook.
Paczki Day Is Back
Paczki Day is March 4 (or Fat Tuesday). Last year I wrote a blog about Paczki Day, and how I had such a hard time finding Paczkis (pronounced POONCH-key) in this area. This year, they are closer than I had imagined. The County Market at 24th and Spring in Quincy has Paczkis!
National Day Of Unplugging – Will You Unplug, And Why Do We Need A ‘National Day’ To Do It?
I just found out that The National Day of Unplugging is March 7 - 8.
The Big Meltdown – How Long Before The Snow Is Gone? [Poll]
The recent warm temperatures and a good dose of rain is slowly washing away the remnants of a very snowy winter.
Slowly...
This pile of snow is in the parking lot of the Quincy Mall.
