Last week we asked you to vote for your picks at the ACM Awards. I also made my picks. Let's see how we all did picking the winners.

A breakdown of the picks made by the KICK-FM audience and myself, compared to the actual winners looks like this...

Entertainer of the Year

  • KICK audience- George Strait
  • My pick- George Strait
  • Actual winner- George Strait

We all knew it! Interestingly, of the five candidates for the award, George Strait, Taylor Swift, Blake Shelton, Luke Bryan and Miranda Lambert... Blake Shelton was the only one who received zero votes. He would have been my pick were it not for King George being on his farewell tour.

Male Vocalist of the Year

  • KICK audience- Luke Bryan
  • My pick- Luke Bryan
  • Actual winner- Jason Aldean

This one seems to have surprised a lot of us. Only Luke Bryan and Blake Shelton received votes from the KICK audience, and Luke garnered roughly 70% of the vote. Lee Brice, Keith Urban and the winner, Jason Aldean didn't get a vote in our poll.

Female Vocalist of the Year

  • KICK audience- Miranda Lambert
  • My pick- Miranda Lambert
  • Actual winner- Miranda Lambert

We all nailed this one. Miranda got 76% of the audience vote and mine as well.

Vocal Duo of the Year

  • KICK audience- Florida Georgia Line
  • My pick- Florida Georgia Line
  • Actual winner- Florida Georgia Line

This may have been the easiest pick of all. I am surprised however that all five of the candidates, also including Big & Rich, Love & Theft, Thompson Square and Dan + Shay,  did receive at least one vote from our audience. Even so, Florida Georgia Line pulled in 73% of votes.

Vocal Group of the Year

  • KICK audience- a tie between The Band Perry and Little Big Town
  • My pick- Little Big Town
  • Actual winner- The Band Perry

The KICK audience gave both The Band Perry and Little Big Town 40% of the vote each. Zac Brown Band was next, followed by Lady Antebellum then Eli Young Band. I was just plain wrong in my pick. Eh... you go out on a limb and you miss sometimes.

New Artist of the Year

  • KICK audience- Justin Moore
  • My pick- Justin Moore
  • Actual winner- Justin Moore

This was a pretty easy one considering Justin simply has more of a resume at this point than either Brett Eldredge and Kip Moore. Justin pulled in 71% of votes.

Album of the year

  • KICK audience- Luke Bryan 'Crash My Party'
  • My pick- Kacey Musgraves- 'Same Trailer, Different Park'
  • Actual winner- Kacey Musgraves- 'Same Trailer, Different Park'

I was thrilled with this win for Kacey. Her album is fantastic from start to finish and it's nice to see an artist who 'colors outside the lines' a little still be able to beat the bigger names. I'm happy to know that quality writing and good songs can still win the day over things that may be more popular over all.

Luke Bryan got 42% of the vote from our audience and Blake Shelton 35%. Kacey got 14%, Tim McGraw 7%, and FGL was shut out.

Single Record of the Year

  • KICK audience- Florida Georgia Line- 'Cruise'
  • My pick- Florida Georgia Line- 'Cruise'
  • Actual winner- Lee Brice- 'I Drive Your Truck'

Even though I have no quams with Lee Brice winning this award... he did a great song... this non win for FGL confirms that I just don't get how they pick these things sometimes. 'Cruise' was the biggest single hit in the history of charted music. I'll repeat that. No other single by any other recording artist in the history of music... any kind of music... was as big of a hit as 'Cruise' was. You could give it an award for 'Single of Recorded History,' yet it didn't win 'Single of the Year.' It's Head scratcher to me.

Now with that said, I think 'I Drive Your Truck' is a better song... but facts are facts and in this case the math doesn't add up to me.

Song of the Year

  • KICK audience- Blake Shelton 'Mine Would Be You'
  • My pick- Gary Allan 'Every Storm (Runs Out of Rain)'
  • Actual winner- Miranda Lambert 'Mama's Broken Heart'

We all whiffed here. I admit I picked Gary because I wanted him to win, but I think his song deserved to as well. You all gave Blake 42% of the vote with Miranda and Lee Brice each getting 21% and Gary Allan 14%. Darius Ruckers 'Wagon Wheel' was blanked.

So, if you count the tie for Vocal Group of the Year as a half win, our audience got 4.5 right out of 9, while I picked 5 of 9 correctly. It's a push for all intents and purposes. Everyone pat themselves on the back... and buy Kacey Musgraves 'Same Trailer, Different Park' if you don't have it. You can thank me later.
