So there I am, cruising through Facebook searching for things to write about, as I do, and a road closure shows up. Hey that happens, they close roads all the time for general maintenance repair, I had actually received this particular notice earlier in the day:

"Effective immediately, and through 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 8, 2017, South 9th Street between Maine and Jersey Streets will be closed to through traffic. The street is being closed to allow for the emergency repair of a failed sewer main in the area. Motorists are reminded to drive carefully near the construction work zone and to use an alternate travel route if possible."

That's according to the press release we got, and the FB post I saw. But it was the NEXT post in my feed, which was time-stamped just half an hour later, that sent this story from "meh," to "Oh God, Oh God, we're all going to die!"

"9th and Maine, Gas line hit south off Maine, QFD responding, Ameren notified." A follow up was that QPD was on the scene.

Major props to our first responders for being quick to act, and I hope everyone and everything is safe. Mostly everyone, but also everything, because that's a block from my apartment and I'd really like an apartment to go home to tonight.
