2014 Mississippi River Run to Be the Last [Interview]

One of the most anticipated 5K/10K run/walks in the area comes to an end after this year's event.

The Mississippi River Run has been a late summer fixture for a number of years. The uniqueness of this race came from the opportunity for participants to run across the Mark Twain Memorial Bridge over the Mississippi at Hannibal.

But, Federal Highway Administration officials have advised against running the race in the future, citing regulations regarding pedestrian traffic on an interstate bridge.

The "swan song" for the Mississippi River Run is Saturday, August 23. Runners and walkers can gather at the YMen's Pavilion (which is also where the run ends), where they will be bussed across the river to the Hull exit. From there, runners come back across the bridge.
