2014 Fall Events Guide For the Quincy / Hannibal Area

Plenty of events and activities are scheduled all around the region during the fall months. Here is a guide to 2014 fall events around the Quincy/Hannibal area.

Smoke on the River

Quincy’s annual Smoke on the River will take place on Friday and Saturday, September 5 & 6, 2014. The Quincy Exchange Club says that Smoke on the River has doubled in size since its inception. Admission to Smoke on the River is free, visitors only need to pay for their food.

Concert in the Cornfield

The Concert in the Cornfield in South Jacksonville, Illinois will feature a huge act in 2014. Montgomery Gentry has been booked for the September 6 concert, and Madd Hoss Jackson will open the show. Tickets are $20 in advance and can be purchased online.

Endless Summer Car Show

The annual Endless Summer Car Show will take place at the Illinois Veterans Home, 12th & Locust in Quincy, on September 7, 2014. This event, presented by the Tri-State Lugnuts Car Club, is always much appreciated by area car enthusiasts, as well as the veterans that reside at the home. The Lugnuts will also host their monthly car cruise at the Quincy Mall on the night before the car show, beginning at 6:30.

Party in the Infield

The Western Illiinois Fairgrounds in Griggsville will host country music’s Cole Swindell for a “Party in the Infield” on September 7. General admission tickets are $19.99 and VIP tickets are $29.99. Tickets can be purchased online. Broseph E. Lee and Skyline Ridge will open the show.

The 14th annual  Quincy Classic Boat & Outboard Show is September 12 – 14. Over the weekend there will be in-water and static boat displays, and a swap meet.The River Run from Hannibal to Quincy has been cancelled because of high waters, but the show will go on.

Northeast Missouri Old Threshers

September 11 – 14 the 27th annual Northeast Missouri Old Threshers celebration will take place at the Shelby County Fairgrounds in Shelbina, Missouri. The Kentucky Headhunters are headlining the entertainment for this year. They will perform on Saturday, September 13 at 8 p.m.

L-Bird Fly-in and Convention

The annual L-Bird Fly-in and Convention will take place at Keokuk Municiple Airport September 25 – 28. Flying, food and fun. “All IBDA, ILPA, Liaisons, Trainers, Warbirds and Enthusiasts welcome!”

Barry Apple Festival

The Barry Apple Festival is always one of the more popular area events. This year, the festival runs from October 2 – 5. “Barry’s Got Talent,” pageants, a 5K run/walk, arts & crafts, a carnival, and, of course, plenty of apple-themed food and an apple pie contest, are all parts of this annual tradition in western Illinois. The Grand Parade for the Barry Apple Festival will be at 1 p.m. on Saturday, October 4.

The Harvest Hootenanny at the Mark Twain Cave will return for its second year in 2014. The event is scheduled for October 10 – 12. Grape stomping, craft beer tasting, and plenty of live entertainment will take place during this family-friendly event.

Autumn Historic Folk Life Festival

2014 will mark the 38th year for Hannibal’s Autumn Historic Folk Life Festival, October 18 – 19. Main Street in downtown Hannibal will be closed to traffic, as arts & craft, food and cultural booths are set up down each side of the street. The Folk Life Festival is presented to educate and celebrate cultural heritage by showcasing historic crafts, food, music, performing arts and culture of the past.

Early Tin Dusters Fall Color Run

This year’s Early Tin Dusters Fall Color Run will be October 17 – 19. Tin Dusters weekend activities will include tours of the Quincy area; a dance; food, craft, and car part vendors; and nearly 900 pre-1949 vehicles driving through the streets of Quincy.

The Pike County Color Drive, the premiere, county-wide tourism event in Pike County, IL is always on the third weekend in October. From Pikecolordrive.com:

Every fall, the Pike County Color Drive provides an opportunity for anyone with an interest to do so to see the beauty of rural Pike County bathed in the splendor of autumn.  Each community provides a unique roster of events, activities, vendors, crafts, food, and exhibits for the general public to take part in.

The Louisiana Country Colorfest is scheduled for October 18 – 19. 2014 marks the 30th year for Colorfest. According to Louisianacolorfest.com:

The Louisiana Country Colorfest will be celebrating its 29th year in October!

We invite you to plan now to participate on October 19, 2013. By entering a float or becoming a volunteer, you can help make this a great celebration of Louisiana’s history and the great changes we are seeing in our community.

Octoberfest Parade and Field Competition

Quincy Senior High School will host its annual Octoberfest Parade and Field Competition on Saturday, October 18. Marching bands from across the Tri-States will participate in the parade and afternoon field competition at Flinn Stadium.

50 Miles of Art

Twice each year, artists and craftsmen who live and work along the 50 mile stretch from Clarksville to Hannibal open their studios and galleries for the 50 Miles of Art tours. Those participating will have a chance to visit with the talented artists of Clarksville, Louisiana and Hannibal. In 2014, the fall studio and gallery tours will take place November 1 – 2.
