Classic Country Songs Among Those Chosen for the 2013 Grammy Hall of Fame
The Grammy Hall of Fame has announced 27 recordings that will be inducted as part of the class of 2013, and several undeniable country classics are featured in a mix that also includes rock, pop and soul.
At the head of the country class is ‘Act Naturally,’ which was written by Johnny Russell and Voni Morrison and became a hit for Buck Owens in 1963. The Beatles also later covered the tune. ‘Bonaparte’s Retreat’ also made the cut, as performed in 1937 by Kentucky fiddler William H. Stepp. The 1961 album ‘Foggy Mountain Banjo’ by the highly influential Lester Flatt, Earl Scruggs and the Foggy Mountain Boys will also get the nod, along with ‘The Titantic,’ a 1924 recording by Ernest V. “Pop” Stoneman.
The 2013 Grammy Awards will take place at Staples Center in Los Angeles on Feb. 10, and will air live on CBS at 8PM ET/PT.
